Your Telegram channel stopped growing? Try this method

So, you’ve got a small Telegram channel — a personal blog, a professional space, a brand page, whatever. You’ve been posting high-quality content, running ads, chatting with ChatGPT, and taking all the usual steps — but at some point, your channel just stopped growing.

This situation has become increasingly common. There are millions of small Telegram channels out there, and people have become very picky. You can post super useful content and get views, but only a few people actually subscribe.

To fix that, we built @GiftforsubBot — a free bot that sends your message to subscribers only. It has proven highly effective because users only need to click two buttons (and wait, if a timeout has been set). If the gift is useful, it will continue attracting subscribers for a long time.

💡 By the way, @GiftforsubBot can technically be used for lead magnets. Although users don’t share their contact information directly, Telegram channel administrators can view subscribers and their join dates within the app.

🤖 Connecting the bot

First, you will need your own bot because @GiftforsubBot does not communicate with users directly—they will not even know it exists. All the gift-related activity happens through personal bots.

Bots are managed through @BotFather, Let’s use its new mini-app interface to create one.

Send the API token of your bot to @GiftforsubBot and then check that it is now working.

🎁 What to gift?

There are several directions you can go in:

  • Links
  • Promocodes
  • Special updates for loyal fans
  • Information you don’t want to share publicly
  • Exclusive files or materials (we’re strongly against piracy!)
  • Just high quality, original content

For example, suppose you are a private psychologist. You could share self-assessment tools, guides, a link to a hidden YouTube webinar, a promocode for therapy sessions. Remember that you are not limited to text — you can send round videos, voice messages, stickers, and any type of Telegram message. Use your creativity to make your gifts diverse.

⚠️ Note: if your bot doesn’t have a paid username, it’ll replace premium emojis with free ones. Avoid using premium emojis, or buy a username on Fragment.

💬 Publishing and testing the gift

Let’s write a tempting post — something like “I want to share a cool material with my subscribers.”

Now, let’s grab the gift from another account.

The user gets a gift, you get a new follower — and that’s for free if you send fewer than 1K gifts per month, which is enough for most creators. Even if you run a large channel, you can buy additional “gifts” at a low cost and use them as needed (pay-as-you-go model).

💡A few important tips

  1. Pin your gifts so they don’t get lost over time.
  2. Don’t publish too many gifts — this tool is most effective when used sparingly. Delete old gifts when posting new ones, keep the best gifts.
  3. Vary the topics and message types.
  4. Make your bot match your channel’s style: add an avatar, description, “What can this bot do?” section.
  5. Always test your gifts in the bot before posting them publicly.
  6. And, of course, don’t tell competitors about this bot.
